What we do
We’re a general practice and deal in all areas of law. Click on the links below for more information on any particular area.
- Litigation
- Conveyancing & Tenancies
- Mortgages
- Your Last Will and Testament
- Grant of Administration/Probate
- Family Law & Divorce
We also have a proven track record in the following areas:
Debt Collection
Since the recession has hit people are becoming less willing to part with their money to pay for services rendered or good supplied. We can advise you in relation to the collection of your debt and file the relevant papers in Court and with the Sheriffs office if it reaches that stage. We can institute debt collection proceedings either in the District or Circuit Court depending on the amount involved.
Employment Disputes
In the current climate people are being let go from work and often are entitled to a redundancy payment. If such a payment has been made we can look at it to ensure that it is correct and if it is not forthcoming we can refer the matter on your behalf to the appropriate tribunals.
Personal Injury Litigation
If you have been injured through someone else’s fault either as a result of a road traffic accident, or an accident at work, or on someone’s premises or fishing boat, you could be entitled to compensation. We will take a detailed note of what happened and if necessary request that the site of the accident be investigated by an engineer. You have to apply to the Injuries Board within 2 years of the accident happening.
Medical Negligence
Sadly some people who entrust themselves to the medical system in Ireland end up in a worse situation than they were before the accessed the heath care. Sometimes this is through the negligence of the professionals working – of course sometimes it is not, and all appropriate procedures have been followed. It is not easy to prove negligence and can often be a costly exercise. Not one to be embarked on lightly. However that being said if you have a suspicion that the medical care afforded to you contributed to a serious and lasting deterioration in your health then we invite you to an exploratory consultation to discuss the matter. Any such case has to be started within 2 years.
The rights of the special needs person
We have acted for a number of children and adults seeking their constitutional right to a primary education. Indeed there are a number of people who should have received the appropriate education and because they did not they have not reached their potential or have become institutionalised. An education with complementary therapies such as speech and language, and occupational therapy is essential for the person with special needs.
Abuse perpetrated on child victims (in both a residential and community setting).
Those who have suffered abuse in their childhood carry a huge burden with them into adulthood and sometimes it takes time for them to understand that the burden is directly related to the abuse endured. Every victim of child abuse reacts differently in their own time. When a victim of child abuse reaches a stage where they can confront their abuser through the courts we can sometimes assist. An exploratory consultation will decide whether or not we are the correct firm to act for you.
District Court
A member of our office appears twice a month in Kinsale District Court and by arrangement in Cork District Court on behalf of clients in relation to the following matters:
- All criminal matters (if you are eligible we can apply for criminal legal aid).
- Debt collection,
- Access and Maintenance
- Licensing –for pubs and restaurants and for auctioneers.
Other areas of law in which we practice include Planning Law, Criminal Law, Company Law, Commercial Letting Agreements, Constitutional Law, Landlord and Tenant Law and Deed Poll Applications. The firm has also represented clients before the various tribunals and redress boards.
In all areas of practice, we strive to be approachable and competent and to give independent and impartial advice which can be relied upon by the client. We are a general practice – we do not claim to be specialist in every area of law but we do assure our clients that any area that is not our speciality we will ensure that they get the most up to date advice possible.
In essence, the client is our priority and we endeavour to give our clients precedence at all times.
